Petrichor

She wretches, phlegm coating her throat
trying to pass off a wheeze as a whisper
disguising coughed-up blood as Urban Decay
Worshiping the man who lights her Gauloise
Cursing the man who crushes her cigarette

Her once-porcelain skin turns yellow
bracing herself to temper the tremors
Demurely turning away, diffusing her breath
Favoring the man who pours frequent and heavy
Dismissing the man who pours not at all

She pines, creating a vision of longing fulfilled
masking hunger as simple playful desire
as if mere moments would leave her uncurious
Longing for the man who feeds her disease
Damning the man who spares her his pathos
