Curled up fetal ball under the bed
Here no one can touch me
safe from harm and danger
orange flames lick the bedroom door
Surrounded by my silent friends
they'll protect me, right?
Leonardo Lion & Ed the Penguin
the bedroom getting warmer now
Faint cries from outside the window
I slide tighter against the wall
further shielded from the crackling menace
Dora the Explorer singes from the heat
Starting to cough puffs of grey
I pull the pillow over my eyes
if I can't see it then it can't see me
the smoke sinks lower in the room
My sanctuary has kept me safe before
from monsters & bears & demons
I squeeze my hands over my ears
to drown out the screeching beeps
Throat starts burning & scratching
eyes well and tear up
Mommy is going to be so angry at me
I drift to sleep in my safest place
